• Harmful algae forces shellfish ban in parts of New England

  PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Algae blooms are forcing the closure of shellfish beds around New England, including most of Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island and much of the coast of Maine.
  It’s the first time harmful algae has prompted a shellfishing closure in Rhode Island, the state Department of Environmental Management said Friday.

  ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)– Albuquerque Police responded to a call of a clown sighting Sunday.
  Police say the clowns were spotted in the area Eubank and I-40 off of Hotel Circle NE.
  According to APD three juveniles have been arrested along with what appears to be a handgun.
  The investigation is still ongoing.

  (CNN) – A new study finds that hormonal contraception, including birth control pills or implants, may increase a woman’s odds of depression and antidepressant medication use.
  Danish researches studied more than 1 million women ages 15 to 34.
  They found women who used contraceptives had an 80-percent increased risk for depression over those who did not use contraceptives.
  The numbers were higher for adolescent girls.

  ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Fire Department is investigating two house fires.
  The first started around 6 p.m. Saturday night. Fire crews quickly responded to a home near Lomas and Tramway. They quickly put out the fire and they said it appears the fireplace caught the attic on fire. They said no one was hurt.

  WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) – The U.S. National Hurricane Center says hurricane-force wind gusts are battering North Carolina’s Outer Banks, even though Matthew was downgraded from a hurricane to a post-tropical cyclone early Sunday.
  The center said in its 8 a.m. ET Sunday update that the center of the storm was about 60 miles (95 kilometers) east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and had maximum sustained winds of near 75 mph (120 kpm).

  It happened at Unser and Lava Bluff. The car was severely damaged and was hanging over a median.
