• Firefighters save pets from Albuquerque garage fire

  ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Firefighters were on the scene of a garage fire in northwest Albuquerque on Friday.
  Officials say heavy, black smoke was coming from the garage at a home on Don Giovanni Road.
  The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. Firefighters rescued three dogs and two cats from the fire but one dog died in the incident.
  The fire is all cleared now and was extinguished within 30 minutes.
  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

  VESTAL, N.Y. (AP) — A pair of teenage sisters who were reported as runaways last year actually had been abducted by a family acquaintance, and a telephone tip led to their rescue this week, authorities said.
  Fifteen-year-old Ky-Lea Fortner and 13-year-old Shaeleen Fitch-Fortner were found Wednesday night in Vestal.
  The sisters were living with a foster family less than 10 miles away in Binghamton in April 2015 when they were reported as runaways, state police said.

• Forecasters say Lake Mead water shortage could be on the way

  PHOENIX (AP) – Federal forecasters say a warm, dry February has increased the chances that Lake Mead will have a water shortage by 2018.
  The Arizona Republic reports that El Nino brought a snowy winter to the Rocky Mountains, but things dried up in February. The Colorado Basin River Forecast Center projects that Lake Powell will hold only 80 percent of its long-term average amount of water this spring.

  PHOENIX (AP) – A second man accused in the fatal shootings of two women in the Phoenix suburb of Surprise has been transported to Arizona from Michigan.
  Records indicate that 23-year-old Montez Lavelle Wright III was booked into a Maricopa County jail late Thursday.
  Wright was arrested in Southfield, Michigan, where authorities say he’s from.
  The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office says a criminal complaint charges Wright with two counts of first-degree and one of burglary.
