  • Haines police officer in stable condition after accidental self-shooting

    Tuesday at around 1:15 p.m., Haines Borough Police Officer Brayton Long, 52, accidentally shot himself in the lower arm while conducting firearms training at the shooting range out Mud Bay Road. Long was transported to the Haines Clinic before being Medevaced to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for further treatment.
    A spokesperson from Harborview said Wednesday morning that Long is in stable condition.

    Five of the eight people injured in a small plane crash in Interior Alaska over the weekend have been released from the hospital.
    Wright Air spokeswoman Kathleen Fagre tells Fairbanks radio station KFAR that five people had bene released from the hospital as of Monday following the crash near Anaktuvuk Pass. She says two passengers and the pilot remain hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

  • APD investigating apparent double homicide in South Anchorage

    Police are investigating an apparent double homicide in a south Anchorage residence.
    APD responded Tuesday to a residence located on the 3600 block of Spinnaker Drive just before 7 p.m.
    An officer told Anchorage TV station KTUU that a man returned home last night and discovered both victims.
    The man and victims are related to one another.
    According to KTUU, the APD officer says it’s being investigated as a domestic violence.
    No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

    After a small plane crashed into a downtown Anchorage building last week, much of the coverage mentioned an organization called the Civil Air Patrol — or CAP.
