    Billington chief executive Mark Smith is to retire after more than 42 years in structural steelwork as the contractor reports a 70% surge in first-half profit.
    Smith will step down on 1 January 2027 after nearly 12 years at Billington, with chief operating officer Trevor Taylor lined up to succeed him.
