Angela Shafiq - 22 - from Hounslow has today been sentenced to 15 months at the Old Bailey, London after being found guilty of encouraging Birmingham man Mohammed Nahim Ahmed to travel to Syria to join Islamist rebel forces. Mohammed Nahim Ahmed and Yusuf Sarwar (both aged 22-years-old) were arrested when they returned to the UK in January 2014 having been in Syria for eight months. The pair were later jailed for a combined total of 25 years and two months. -

Detectives have today (Tuesday 8 September) charged a woman with the murder of 18 month old Shi-Anne Downer. Shi-Anne’s guardian, 35 year-old unemployed Kandyce Downer from Beckbury Road in Weoley Castle, has been charged with murder/allowing or causing the death of a child. A Birmingham man has been jailed for three years for causing serious injury to an elderly man by dangerous driving in Sutton Coldfield last November.Gurpreet Sandhu of Church Lane, Handsworth, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing at Birmingham Crown Court, to the offence after he hit 91-year-old Horace Downes as he crossed Brassington Avenue to go and place a bet on the horses. -
