    West Midlands Police’s new head of Special Constabulary Mike Rogers got his first taste of volunteer policing on the streets of Wolverhampton more than 20 years ago.

    Now Mike has been appointed Chief Officer of the force’s volunteer ranks and talks about his passion for volunteer policing and his plans to expand the scope for Specials deployment into exciting new areas.
  • Trio jailed for nearly 30 years for Coventry convenience store raids

    Three Coventry men who carried out raids on convenience stores, stealing cash and cigarettes, have been jailed for nearly 30 years.

    Clark McAulay, aged 28 from Hepworth Road, Binley, and James Miller, aged 26 from Meadfoot Road, Willenhall, both pleaded guilty to four robberies after threatening staff with a claw hammer and other weapons before bundling cigarettes into a duvet cover and prising open till drawers with crowbars.
  • Rapist jailed as force launches campaign

    A man who raped a woman who was so drunk she couldn’t even move or talk has today been jailed for eight years. 

    Unemployed Jamaican national Gerald Malcolm, 48 of no fixed address, was sentenced on the same day the force launches a new campaign to raise awareness of rape and serious sexual assaults particularly in the run up to Christmas. 
  • Man sentenced to 14 years behind bars for stabbing Wolverhampton doorman

    A man has been jailed for 14 years for stabbing a doorman through the heart after being denied entry to a Wolverhampton pub. 

    Craig Birch, aged 31, was found guilty of wounding with intent today (Thursday 11 December) at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

  • EDL members jailed for Birmingham protest violence

    The first of 52 men have been sentenced for violent disorder at an English Defence League protest in Birmingham last year.

    Adam Beebee, 28, of Boundary Road, Erdington, Birmingham; James Harrington, 30, of Kentmere Avenue, Seacroft, Leeds; Jake Hill, 32, of Church Street, Stourbridge; and Lee Joshua, 43, of St Mary’s Court, Brierley Hill were sentenced to a total of almost six and a half years at Birmingham Crown Court today (Thursday 11 December).
