Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged assault in Gedling on Sunday night.Officers were called to the incident in Main Road, Gedling, at around 10.30pm, where a man was assaulted by another man and left with facial injuries.The offender is described as white, 6ft tall and of stocky build. Traffic is building up around Nottingham due to the closure of the M1 southbound carriageway. Commuters are now being diverted off the motorway at Junction 25 and on to the A52 westbound, continuing on to the A5111 southbound at Spondon before taking the A6 southbound and A50 eastbound to re-join the M1 at Junction 24. There is also congestion on the A453 running into Nottingham due to the accident, and delays on the M1 between junctions 28 and 30.

Firefighters battled a house fire in Kirkby-in-Ashfield on Sunday night.The call was received at 22.36pm, where two crews from Ashfield and one crew from Mansfield attended the scene.The fire was at a property in Spruce Grove, in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.Firefighters dealt with the blaze using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel, one thermal imagery camera and one positive pressure ventilation fan.No-one was reported injured after the incident.
