  A South Harrow takeaway has been given a one-star food hygiene rating following an inspection by Harrow Council.
  Desi Biryani, at 222 Northolt Road, was inspected on August 5, 2026. The takeaway serves Indian and Indo-Pakistani food, including biryani, curries, kebabs, rolls and other dishes.
  It received a rating of one out of five, which means “major improvement necessary” under the Food Standards Agency’s rating system.

• The Pinner pub landlord who kept a bear – and took it for walks

  There are plenty of unusual stories buried in Harrow’s past, but this one is probably up there with the strangest.
  More than a century ago, the landlord of The Queen’s Head in Pinner is said to have kept a bear in the stables behind the pub – and even took it out for walks.
  The story is recorded by Historic England and centres on Dawson Billows, who was the licensee of the High Street pub in the early 20th century.

• Plans for former Kingsbury bank to be used for gold testing business

  A former Halifax bank in Kingsbury could be used for a specialist precious metals testing business involving the melting of scrap jewellery to check its gold content.
  The plans relate to the ground floor of 469-471 Kingsbury Road, close to Kingsbury Underground station. The premises were previously occupied by Halifax.
  An application has now been submitted to Brent Council by Archaize Ltd seeking confirmation that the proposed use would be lawful.
