The Legacy of an Unknown Hero by Ted Howden Chalmers from Bancrofts' School
Headstones identical to the one I have photographed above can be seen in their thousands in First World War military graveyards across Europe. When they all display the same six words at the top and the same 3 at the bottom, it can become difficult for us to remember that each and every single one stands for a completely different young soldier, who chose to lay down their lives solely at the service of us who live on today. -

Free will in Macbeth - Praneeth Lakshman, Tiffin School
The stance that Macbeth’s free will, and by logical extension his own actions, is the foundation of his impending downfall is not an unpopular one to hold. On first reading of the play and its unfoldings, such a view might promise to be the most entertaining to follow along. The belief that the agents in the story have full control over their actions ignores the futility that might be proposed instead by the inclination of predetermined fate, but such a view itself is not dismissable from -

Hounslow Knife Crime Increases Hamze Ali Tiffin School
In the past month, the Hounslow borough has been littered with knife crime cases and stabbings. Various cases have been reported of civilians 'fighting for their life' after receiving brutal stabbings. Hounslow residents and locals have regarded the Hounslow High Street as a hotspot for knife crime and petty theft, especially at night, but the increase in cases of stabbings throughout the borough has certainly been notable. -

Lord Hodge at the Guildhall by Anwen Pinniger City of London Freemens School
Going to a City of London School presents many opportunities for intellectual growth, but by far my favourite part is the times when we are taken up to visit the ancient City. The corporation that runs the school also runs the City of London, the country and indeed the world’s premier financial markets for the last thousand years. -

The Rise of Vapes in Young People - Daisy Dennis Croydon High School
E-cigarettes go by many different names, for example, tank systems, e-cigs, mods, vape pens, vaporizers and vapes. When e-cigarettes first hit the market, they were advertised as a healthier alternative to cigarettes, but is this really the case? In 2022, we know there are a number of vaping related illnesses and deaths. Although vaping does pose a much smaller threat than smoking cigarettes does, it still has its own issues. Studies have shown that e-cigarettes can cause symptoms such as c -
What are your views on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here? By Fliss Haines Esher Sixth Form College
Do you watch the reality series I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here? For me, I can't get enough of the show. Who doesn’t like to watch famous people, some of whom are known for the most ludicrous reasons, not going to name any names here (I think you know what I mean though) and get challenged with the most frightening tasks. Believe me, I know that the whole idea of the show may seem rather silly, perhaps even unnecessary but to see these people have to eat bugs, lay in a cave filled -

The eyes of your local waitress By Fliss Haines Esher Sixth Form College
People always assume that being a waitress is merely a job in which its primary duty is to serve with a smile. It’s not. So many tasks, so many conversations and so many people expecting the highest standard of service to ensure their meal is enjoyable. All of that for the minimum wage. Don’t get me wrong it definitely has its perks. Let me take you back three months to my first shift, a moment of pressure not to make a bad impression but also the additional pressure not to mistake s -

Is it really a Funfair for everyone? by Rohaan Edwards, Wilson's School
Every April and October, the George Irvin Funfair comes to Crystal Palace Park for over 2 weeks, giving the children of Crystal Palace a fun activity to do over the holidays with their families. However, not everyone is overjoyed at the sight of the carnival. One of the earliest memories from my childhood was my family and I visiting this funfair over the October Half term. We had recently seen an advert on the way to scho -

The ‘cost of living crisis represents the fall in ‘real’ disposable incomes (adjusted for inflation and taxes.). 'Romeo and Juliet' Review Muhammed Farhan Ilford County High School
On Saturday 5th November 2022 I was lucky enough to be joined by some of my school fellows at the local theatre to watch a modern adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The stage was humble in comparison to some of those I have seen in the West End; having said that, the stage still had a lot of heart. The scenes were effectively changed by use of several backdrops including an entire curtain of foliage to represent the famous balcony scene as well as the sparing use of light -

To celebrate Guy Fawkes Day, there was a fireworks show at Chislehurst Recreation ground. The show itself started at 7:30 pm and ended around 7:40pm, with the park opening at 6pm and closing at 11pm. Is Cricket a Gender-Neutral Sport? by Atharv Swaminathan, Tiffin School
On July 5th, 2022, the New Zealand Cricket board announced that they were going to start paying male and female cricket players the same amount of money per game. This was a massive step in terms of equality in cricket, and this move was lauded by many across the world. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) followed in similar steps a few months later, equalising pay between male and female players, with female players receiving a 200% hike in their T20 fee, a 275% increase in their t -
Climate activism: How messy is too much? - Mira Bassi, TBS
‘Climate change’. The phrase is one which has dominated recent political discussion, emphasising the severity of the threat our environment faces. Greta Thunberg’s ‘Fridays for Future’ movement highlighted such anxieties within young people, seeing students in over 7,500 cities and towns skipping school to protest the negligence of politicians in their efforts to meet carbon emissions targets. A year after the first protest, a fresh wave of climate strikes swept the -
London: a city of diversity - Nicole Cervantes, Gumley House
London is a renowned cultural hub with an abundance of diverse food, cultures, and customs; it is no surprise that England’s national dish is ‘Chicken tikka masala.’ The recent election of Rishi Sunak as England’s prime minister (the first UK prime minister of colour) further demonstrates the country’s acceptance towards ethnic minorities. This has allowed England to benefit financially and socially from multicultural celebrations such as Diwali and Notting Hill Car -
