  A car smashed into a lamppost in Addiscombe during rush hour this evening (Friday, December 30). Police were called to Addiscombe Road shortly after 5pm to deal with the damaged car which had hit the post near a zebra crossing. No injuries have been reported but the road remains closed between Havelock Road and Outram Road as officers wait for a recovery vehicle to take the car away.   A police officer was charged with misconduct after throwing a log through the window of a house after Halloween, but will not lose his job.
