  A teenager who tried to rob a woman of her gold chain outside Croydon Magistrates' Court has been banned from going south of the river Thames.Kevin Hawkins, 18, tried to grab a gold chain from the neck of the woman as she was walking past the court on September 19.But he was caught almost straight away when a passing police officer noticed the crime.At Croydon Crown Court today he admitted attempted robbery.Recorder of Croydon Judge Warwick McKinnon, who took the extraordinary step of deferring.

  A series of free music events will be launching in Croydon town centre on Friday.Crowd will see street food, bars and entertainment showcased on Croydon's streets, which organisers hope will drive the town's night-time economy.The initiative, a joint venture between Croydon Council and Croydon Business Improvement District (BID), will see four events staged in St George's Walk, the first of which being this Friday.The dates of the other Crowd events have not been confirmed.
