  A Croydon man appeared in court charged with terrorism offences.Mohammed Alam, 31, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' court yesterday morning charged with distributing or circulating a terrorist publication.Alam was charged under section 2(1), (2)(a) and (11) of the Terrorism Act 2006, after being arrested on December 22, at a business address by officers from the MPS Counter Terrorism Command.He was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on January 8.

  Twelve people were evacuated from a house fire in Croydon last night.Fire crews from Croydon, Norbury and Woodside attended the blaze, which started in the utility room of the house in Euston Road and spread through the property.It is believed the fire was started by a faulty tumble dryer. Crews were called out at 12.45am to reports of a smoke alarm sounding.A fire brigade spokesman confirmed the blaze was under control by 1.22am.
