  As of the 2023 Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix, the new sprint format will take place. Originally F1 sprints began in 2021, where the usual weekend format was altered to introduce a second shorter race which created a more interesting and exciting weekend. It meant qualifying moved from a Saturday to Friday, which then determined the line-up for the sprint race. The sprint race would then take place and the results would decide the order for the Grand Prix (GP).
