    Guided tours of Battersea Power Station’s 1950s control room
    These are candidly not the cheapest tours in London right now, but there’s a sort-of guided tour of the 1950s electricity control room inside Battersea Power Station on offer.
    The half-hour tours are not led by a tour guide, but by an audio guide with headsets you wear, so no chance to ask questions — and that’s going to be because the Control Room is also now a public bar. As you’re weaving around the bar customers, this is a tour that includes a glass of champagne.

    Railway upgrade halves delays on Southern and Gatwick Express services at Victoria station
    Delays to Southern and Gatwick Express in and out of Victoria station have more than halved since a new signalling system was switched on last Christmas, according to Network Rail analysis.

    The new signalling came into use on the lines between Balham, Clapham Junction and London Victoria (platforms 9-19) last Christmas. replacing increasingly unreliable equipment that dates back to the 1980s.

  • Ericsson makes ‘world’s first’ 6CC data call

    Kit vendor Ericsson has combined six component carriers to clock a 5G download speed of 5.7Gbps, which is says is a record.
    The data call was achieved in an Ericsson lab using (brace yourselves) three FDD (frequency division duplex) bands combined with three TDD (time division duplex) bands in sub-6GHz, Ericsson RAN Compute hardware, carrier aggregation software, and something called Advanced RAN Coordination functionality.

    Another railway strike announced – by ASLEF train drivers
    The ASLEF union has announced there will be a strike by train drivers next month, that will likely see most train services cancelled.The one-day strike will affect 16 train companies across England on Friday 1st September, but there will also be an overtime ban on the following day, Saturday 2nd September, which will likely severely affect the train company’s ability to restore services following the strike.
    The Saturday disruption will also be magnified by an RMT strike on the same day.

  • Deutsche Telekom launches new 5G tablet for €1

    Operator Deutsche Telekom has bolstered its low-cost T Phone range with a the T Tablet courtesy of a collaboration with Google.
    The T Tablet is being sold for €1 when purchased with the operator’s Magenta Mobile or Data plans –  or on its own for €219 –  and will be available from August 24th. It’s already got a range of own-branded phones, but this is its first tablet.
