  • Qualcomm claims sub-6 GHz speed record

Momentum behind 5G Advanced continues to build, with chip maker Qualcomm showing off its capabilities by reaching a new speed milestone.
Using its first 5G Advanced modem, the Snapdragon X75, Qualcomm was able to aggregate four carriers of sub 6-GHz spectrum giving it a total of 300 MHz to play with. Added to that was 1024 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), and the result was a peak downlink speed of 7.5 Gbps. The speed was achieved under test conditions with a dedicated 5G standalone (SA) n
  • US declares Chinese tech development a national emergency

The US attempt to put the Chinese genie back in its bottle has escalated further with an executive order prohibiting US investment in a bunch of Chinese industries.
Hilariously, the published executive order insists on referring to ‘countries of concern’, directing people to an annex at the bottom of the lengthy announcement to for the solution to the mystery. There’s only one – China. It frames the development of military, surveillance and cyber technologies by China as
  • BT teases 5G SA progress with wideband FDD trial

UK incumbent BT has been playing around with various combinations of its sub-6-GHz spectrum as it inches towards rolling out 5G standalone (SA).
Together with Ericsson and MediaTek, BT said on Thursday that it has successfully transmitted 5G data in a wideband frequency division duplex (FDD) carrier. More specifically, it used 2×50 MHz of its 2.6 GHz spectrum, and as everyone surely knows by now, more spectrum equals a faster connection.
It also tried out downlink aggregation of two time d

  • Deutsche Telekom lifts guidance again on Europe strength

Deutsche Telekom has once again raised its full-year earnings guidance, a further sign of improving trends for European telecoms operators.
The move comes after the group’s T-Mobile US unit increased its own guidance across a range of metrics last month. But while that doubtless informed Deutsche Telekom’s decision to do the same – T-Mobile US accounts for nearly two-thirds of turnover and earnings, after all – the telco also made it clear that its European businesses pla
