    DLR looking for exemptions on accessibility regulations
    The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is seeking exemptions from accessibility requirements that would require it to close the gap between trains and platforms sooner than it is currently able to.Although the DLR is generally pretty good for accessibility, with lifts to all stations and pretty much step-free access between trains and platforms, there are gaps at some parts of some platforms that breach the guidelines, particularly on curved platforms.

    German operator Deutsche Telekom and MIRA are playing around with the ‘shuttle service of the future’ in Bonn.

  • Apple sales down in Q3, but services driving up profits

    US tech giant Apple’s revenue was down by 1% for Q3, but growth in services drove a net profit bump YoY.
    Revenue for Q3 came in at $81.8 billion, down 1% YoY, but net profit rose 2.3% to $19.8 billion, and quarterly earnings per diluted share were $1.26, up 5%.
    Revenue from services drove the profit bump it seems, rising by 8% to $21.2 billion, though hardware sales were a drag factor with iPhone sales dropping by 2.4% YoY, iPads by 19.8% and Macs by 7.3%.

    Will Gompertz, who is currently Artistic Director at the Barbican and was for many years, the BBC’s Arts Editor has been named as the new director of the Sir John Soane’s Museum.

    Nokia is to start making fibre broadband kit in the US in a bid to get in on the action of one of the government’s major, multi-billion-dollar funding drives.
    The Finnish kit maker is partnering with Sanmina Corporation to manufacture a number of fibre-optic broadband products at the latter’s facility in Wisconsin, bringing with it up to 200 new jobs, it claims.
