There’s a discount sale on train tickets at the moment being offered by East Midland Railway, which does in fact include trips from London. Despite its name as a midlands railway, they run from London St Pancras station as well, connecting up to Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield and beyond.
The rates are £10 for trips from London to destinations up to and including Leicester — and then £15 for trips to destinations north of Leicester.
Those are one-way prices, so do

via ianvisits.co.uk
The RMT union has announced a week of strike action on the London Underground from later this month. The union says that different grades and sections of the tube will take strike action from Sunday 23rd July until Friday 28th July, although, at the moment, they’re not confirming exactly which parts of the London Underground will be affected by the strike action.
However, RMT union leader Mike Lynch says that the action will “shut down the London Underground”.

Giant tubes have appeared on top of Temple tube station
via ianvisits.co.uk
A huge maze of giant snaking metal tubes have appeared on top of a tube station in central London, as part of an ongoing art project in the area.Called Slackwater, it’s an artwork byHolly Hendry, that was created for the roof terrace above Temple tube station, and is also her first public commission in London.
Constructed with industrial-scale ducting, the pipes curl around electricity spools and over casts of inflated boat fenders, it’s said to represent the ebb and flow of the near -
T-Mobile US top on overall performance, but Verizon wins in 5G
T-Mobile US is once again claiming bragging rights over its main competitors, having come out on top in a new mobile experience survey.
But it is not having everything its own way when it comes to 5G. While T-Mobile was leader of the pack on a couple of key 5G metrics in a separate report, Verizon took home wins in more 5G categories.
The data comes from mobile analytics company Opensignal, which simultaneously published its Mobile Network Experience and 5G Experience reports for the US this wee -
Huawei’s OptiX Alps-WDM Solution Gains Market Momentum
Sometimes when you solve one customer’s problem, you solve many customers’ problems.
That’s the case with Huawei’s OptiX Alps-WDM solution, first announced earlier this year at MWC Barcelona. OptiX Alps-WDM helps carriers build metropolitan area networks (MANs) with optimal TCO, and Huawei is promoting the tangible success of the solution for China Unicom Chongqing, noting that the carrier’s power consumption, physical space footprint of sites, and service rollout t -

Go behind the scenes as LT Museum adds Baker Street station to their Hidden London tours
via ianvisits.co.uk
There will be a chance to go behind the scenes at Baker Street tube station this autumn, as the London Transport Museum adds it to their ongoing Hidden London tours.
(c) London Transport Museum
When it first opened 160 years ago in 1863, Baker Street was one of the seven original stations to open as part of the world’s first underground railway
Today, the busy station is home to 5 underground lines and 10 platforms, the most on the Underground network. But hidden just out of sight from com -
Japanese sculptor Bikky Sunazawa’s wood sculptures are on display in London
via ianvisits.co.uk
An exhibition of work by one of Japan’s most prominent modern sculptors, Bikky Sunazawa is showing off a selection of his remarkable carved woodworks.Bikky emphasised tactile sensation, as he considered touch to be the most undervalued of the five senses and created sculptures that could be handled and moved, rather than merely seen. Sadly, his works are now a bit too valuable to be manhandled, so we’re stuck with looking and not touching.
But they are a feast for the eyes nonetheles -
The Road to 5.5G: Huawei Is Paving the Way With Continuous Innovation
It may seem as if the 5G era has only just begun, but the evolution to 6G is already underway, especially with the ITU recently defining a 6G vision. But the shift from vision to commercial use is generally a decade-long progress, which means an interim phase – something Huawei and other stakeholders refer to as 5.5G – is needed to protect existing investments in 5G while dramatically improving network performance. That was the major theme of a talk given by Yang Chaobin, Huawei&rsquo -
Continuous Innovation Will Fuel The Next Waves of Digital and Intelligent Transformation
If the first wave of 5G-enabled digital transformation was all about connectivity, then the next wave – called 5.5G by Huawei and other major industry players – will be about digital and intelligent transformation. The result? Unprecedented network speeds and performance that powers the next – and more intelligent, thanks to AI – era in digital transformation across industries.
Richard Liu, Huawei’s President of Global Carrier Marketing & Solution Sales, recentl -
Telcos see more gain than pain from generative AI – Capgemini
If generative AI does end up accidentally wiping out humanity, it might be because most companies – including telcos – thought it was worth the risk.
69 percent of operator respondents to a Capgemini survey published on Thursday agree that the benefits that generative AI brings outweigh the associated risks. So while it might end up spreading misinformation and reinforcing prejudice, it will at least be able to recommend the right service plan, or direct a customer’s query to t -

Telecom professionals see private networks as key to 5G monetisation
According to Telecoms.com’s latest 5G survey report, 5G’s top monetisation capability in the next two years is enterprise private networks, while the mobile edge has slipped down down in relevance.
Among a bunch of other key findings, the survey report, Advancing 5G, explores the industry’s hottest question of how best to monetise 5G. With the need for pricing power to return to telcos more urgent than ever before, it seems imperative for telcos to explore and rethink the 5G mo
