A new exhibition at the V&A takes a look at post-colonial fashions across the African continent, showing off not just their diversity, but also how they’ve influenced Western tastes.
This is not an exhibition about clothing that the average person buys though, but clothing bought by those rich enough to have disposable income to buy designer clothes created locally for local markets.

Mediation fails to resolve objections to Rogers and Shaw merger
Canada’s Commissioner of Competition has had a look at the proposed merger between Rogers Communications and rival Shaw, and his concerns remain unsettled.
Talks with the Canadian regulator have, at least in the first pass, failed to alleviate the concerns it had about the proposed deal. A statement put out by Rogers reads:

US tech giant Apple has announced ‘Lockdown Mode’ – an upcoming security feature for iPhones, iPads and Macs made specifically to defend against state-sponsored mercenary spyware and cyberattacks.
Lockdown Mode will be an option to flip on in upcoming iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura updates, and is designed to offer ‘extreme, optional protection for the very small number of users who face grave, targeted threats to their digital security.’

TIM sort of clarifies details of company split
TIM has outlined more detailed plans to split its network operations from its services business, confirming recent reports that around half of its debt will go with the NetCo unit.
But the financial picture at NetCo could change pretty quickly. TIM also noted that M&A is still an option, specifically the merger of the networks business with that of rival Open Fiber or the sale of the unit to other investors. Only if the financials stack up though, of course.
There are no big surprises in TIM -
Nearly 90 percent of new 5G devices support standalone
The 5G device market is showing signs of maturity, with much broader support for standalone (SA) and fewer non-5G versions of handsets.
This is according to the latest Mobile Device Trends report, published this week by the Global Certification Forum (GCF). GCF is a non-profit group that verifies mobile products to ensure they are of sufficiently high quality, secure, reliable and interoperable. 150 OEMs from 25 countries participate in its certification programmes, giving it a good bird’s -
Largest submarine cable between Australia and the US launches
Southern Cross Cables says its NEXT submarine network is the most capacious yet to connect Australia, New Zealand, Pacific islands, and the US.
While the distance covered is an impressive 15,840km, this is the third transpacific cable laid down by Southern Cross Cables (SX to its friends) which, as its name implies, specialises in this sort of thing. Having two such networks in its portfolio, the company chose NEXT as the name for the latest one. It’s hard to fault that as a descriptive la -
Reaping the full potential of 5G

Rogers–Shaw merger hits antitrust impasse
Back in March last year, Rogers Communications announced that it had agreed to buy its rival, Shaw Communications, for C$21 billion (roughly $15 billion). The deal was immediately controversial, with detractors claiming that the deal would be bad for consumers and competition, driving up prices and reducing the number of mobile operators in Canada from four to three.
