Perivale Wood’s bluebells open days announced
A normally closed nature reserve in west London will be open for a few days when the woods are filled with bluebells at their best.
At 27 acres in size, Perivale Wood sits just next to the Central line railway and is one of the oldest dedicated nature reserves in the UK. Set up as a bird sanctuary at a time when all around here was fields, it was an unusually farsighted vision of how urban sprawl could someday leave no large swathes of woodland for birds. Now, each year during the spring, the woo

Have you used Charing Cross station’s rear entrance?
Charing Cross station has a grand frontage with its hotel, Eleanor Cross, and courtyard, but there’s also another entrance that’s far less well known.

Ofcom set to become even more politicised with new Chair appointment
The UK government has announced its preferred candidate for Ofcom chair is Tory peer Michael Grade.
If his appointment is approved, Lord Grade (pictured) will team up with Chief Exec Dame Melanie Dawes to form an establishment dream team. Furthermore, Grade seems to be fairly openly partisan in favour of the Tory party that made him a life peer. The Guardian notes his recent defence of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and is especially concerned about his apparent animosity towards the BBC.

    London’s Alleys: Lombard Court, EC3
This is a slightly winding passage that has been around for a few centuries and yet left little history in its wake.It first starts to show up in the middle of the 17th-century as an unmarked passage through the built-up area. In 1746, John Roque’s map of London showed the alley as Nags Head Court, and as the main route linking up a number of smaller — since lost — alleys that clustered around it. This is clearer to see 50 years later in R Horwood’s map.
