Smithfield meat market has confirmed that the annual Christmas Eve auction won’t be happening this year, due to you know what.
Considering that much of the fun of the event is being part of a tightly packed crowd shouting for attention and waving money as fresh meat and turkeys are flung around — it was unlikely to take place. Smithfields meat market has now confirmed the auction cannot go ahead safely this year. They are hoping that they will be able to hold the auction next year.

Tours of the triforium in St Paul’s Cathedral
via ianvisits.co.uk
St Paul’s Cathedral is running occasional tours of its triforium, the space high up above the nave once again during December.
The triforium is a huge hidden corridor that runs around the nave hidden high up above the heads of the worshipers below. No one is entirely sure why the space is called a Triforium, but in ancient times someone described a similar space in Canterbury with such a name, and it stuck.
For those cathedrals that are large enough to have one, it’s a valuable space -
Intel eyes 2022 listing for connected car unit Mobileye
US chip giant Intel intends to retain majority ownership of Israel-based connected car tech company Mobileye after an IPO.
More than four years ago, Intel raised some eyebrows when it acquired Mobileye for a fairly hefty $15.3 billion. Now, the chip giant is aiming to take the connected car specialist public in the United States during 2022 — in a deal estimated to be worth more than $50 billion.
No surprises, then, that Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel, has described the acquisition of Mob -
Beam Park station funding forces delay in housing development
via ianvisits.co.uk
Plans by Havering Council to buy up plots of land to support new housing in Dagenham have been withdrawn due to the confusion over plans for a new railway station next to the housing development.
The site, Beam Park is the former Ford manufacturing plant in Dagenham, now owned by the GLA, and in 2019 received consents for a 3,000 home development, with around half classed as “affordable”. As part of the agreement, a new railway station was to be built next to the site on the existing -
Life360 reportedly sells precise, identifiable location data
Self-styled “family safety platform”, Life360, is alleged to have sold the precise location data of its users to many data brokers, which then sell it on to all kinds of customers.
Former employees of one of the most popular data tracking apps, Life360, have told The Markup, a New York-based non-profit organisation, that their former employer sells location data it collects from its own app to around a dozen data brokers including Cuebiq, X-Mode, SafeGraph, and Arity. These brokers t -

Virgin completes its gigabit upgrade
As anticipated a month ago, Virgin Media O2 now claims to provide average speeds in excess of 1 gigabit per second over its entire fixed network.
For some reason VMO2 issued a press release teasing this milestone in November, which must have coincided with a quiet news day because we covered it anyway. The big day was promised before the end of the year and has some with weeks to spare, so credit where it’s due. The underlying significance of the milestone, however, is not so clear cut.

Louis Wain’s kaleidoscopic cats fills a gallery with colour
via ianvisits.co.uk
One Christmas, a patient in a psychiatric hospital was asked to help with the decorations, and he painted Jesus on a mirror, but no ordinary Jesus, this was Jesus as a cat, and the patient was Louis Wain.
Louis Wain was once exceptionally famous, but his fame has faded over time, and he is now almost as well known for suffering a mental health condition than for drawing lots of cats, but a new film about his life with Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role will give him and his work a new burst o -
