Do take a climb up the Marble Arch Mound
I know it goes against what the commentariat is saying, but the Marble Arch Mound is rather fun to visit.
Undeniably, the mound itself is not what was advertised – the art isn’t here, the cafe isn’t here, the shop isn’t here — the plants are 2-months from being at their best. The budget has been blown out of the water and tickets are now free until the end of the month.
But after all the fuss, what’s it like to climb up the Mound?
I know it goes against the Ap

    London Churches: St Margaret’s Lothbury
A stone-clad church that can be found around the back of the Bank of England has been on this site since at least the 12th-century.
The earliest reference to the church dates to 1181, and the church lists simply “Reginald the priest” as being Rector that year. The next Rector listed is John De Hastingfield in 1303, so either the list is incomplete, or Reginald the Priest had an exceptionally long life. At the time the church and parish were part of the abbess and convent of Barking,

    SK’s ‘Square’ spin-off targets semiconductor M&A
SK Telecom has named its planned spin-off company SK Square and provided some additional detail on the new venture, chief among which is its intention to invest heavily in the semiconductor space.
The South Korean telco announced plans to separate out its semiconductor and new ICT – in areas such as media, security and commerce – businesses in April, at the time referring to the new entity as ‘ICT Investment Company.’
It has now moved on from this working title and reveal

Qualcomm launches a 5G drone platform
US mobile chip giant Qualcomm has made its bid to dominate drones as it already does smartphones with the launch of the Flight Platform.
One of the ways Qualcomm has managed to maintain its pre-eminence in the mobile space is through the regular production of reference platforms, which do a lot of the technical heavy lifting for device-makers, allowing them to focus on integration and customisation. The Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G Platform seems to be an attempt to do the same for drones.

BT’s new chairman brings experience in content and sports
Adam Crozier was the head of the English Football Association, which could say something about BT’s plans for the future, given he has just been named as the telco’s new Chairman.
However, Crozier’s CV is packed with high-profile roles in the British business world, so those of us whose thoughts immediately turned to the beautiful game might have to think again; Crozier is an establishment figure – as predicted – deemed right for the job by the UK’s telecoms i

US China spat is Balkanising even subsea cables
Recent developments in the subsea cable game suggest we’re moving towards a time when China and the US operate their own distinct internet backbones.
At the start of his blog announcing his company’s participation in yet another East Asian subsea cable project that excludes China, Head of Google Global Networking Bikash Koley stated: “Did you know that 98% of international internet traffic is ferried around the world by subsea cables?” He did so to make a generic point ab

No Comply – Somerset House’s exhibition about skateboarding
Conveniently timed for its debut at the Tokyo Olympics, there’s an exhibition about skateboarding at Somerset House, that looks at the associated skateboarding culture rather than sporting prowess.
Skateboarding arrived in the UK in the mid-1970s as an American import and although based on US surfing culture, it quickly developed a very British style of its own. It’s eye-opening to learn that skateboarding nearly died out within a few years of its arrival. A burst of enthusiasm saw a

Behind the scenes at South Kensington tube station’s escalator replacement project
Deep underneath South Kensington tube station, a huge project is underway to replace all five of the station’s escalators, and all of them at the same time.
To do that though, Piccadilly line trains have had to stop calling at South Kensington station and won’t call there again until next spring. Now, normally when escalators need replacing they don’t have to close part of the station, so why was this necessary at South Kensington?
It helps to understand a little bit about the
