Android 12 focuses on personalisation and privacy, again
Google has previewed the next version of Android which, once more, claims to empower the user to adapt and secure their device experience.
Just as smartphones haven’t significantly evolved in a decade, having hit their optimal form factor quickly, so trying to innovate their operating systems has proven tricky. Most users just want them to work and it’s definitely better to do nothing than impose some undesired new product or service. So it’s probably no bad thing that Android

O2 UK and Microsoft team up over private 5G networks
The world’s second largest public cloud provider has shown it doesn’t think ‘private’ is a dirty word in its MEC collaboration with O2 UK.
Microsoft and O2 are working on a proof-of-concept designed to explore the benefits of on-premise Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) within a Private 5G Network, focusing on security and low latency. A signature benefit of MEC is low-latency as it reduces the physical distance the signal has to travel. The security angle is simply a product o

US consumers happier with Samsung than Apple
Customer satisfaction in the US mobile market hasn’t changed much in the past 12 months, the latest data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) shows, which, against the backdrop of a global pandemic, is clearly a good thing.
But there are a couple of highlights worth noting: T-Mobile’s merger with Sprint has affected its rating, pushing it below major rivals AT&T and Verizon; and the iPhone has fallen off its perch as America’s most loved smartphone.

Nokia confirms it’s replacing the ‘incumbent vendor’ in Swedish 5G deal
Nokia has announced that it will provide the equipment for some – it’s statement implies quite a lot – of Net4Mobility’s 5G rollout in Sweden.
The Finnish vendor said it has brokered a five-year deal with the mobile operator, a joint venture between Telenor and Tele2, to deploy kit from its AirScale portfolio.
The thing is, Nokia hasn’t really told us anything we didn’t already know. Net4Mobility announced when it won 3.5 GHz spectrum in Sweden in January that

On a side street not far from Harrods can be found a large but slightly dour-looking grey stone church. This is St Columba’s Church of Scotland, a Presbyterian church that owes its origins to the union of the English and Scottish crowns in the early 17th century. As the Scottish population in London increased, a church was opened in Covent Garden, but in 1884, a second was added, here in Knightsbridge.
