Ofcom tells UK telcos to pull their socks up on customer service
UK telecoms operators need to buck up their ideas when it comes to customer service, Ofcom reckons.
The regulator has cut the telcos some slack due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but is now (very gently) urging them to up their game.
“Telecoms companies adapted quickly to meet soaring demand for their services last year – helping to keep the country connected,” said Lindsey Fussell, Ofcom’s Networks and Communications Group Director, in a statement accompanying the regulator&r

NYSE set to finally go through with Chinese telco ban
After repeatedly changing its mind at the start of the year, the New York Stock Exchange appears ready to delist all three major Chinese MNOs.
One of the last acts of the Trump presidency was to compel the NYSE to delist the shares of China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. But even by the standards of that administration, those were chaotic times, and the next day the NYSE uncompelled itself, before recompelling itself the  day after.
Sensibly, the people running the exchange decided

Nokia picked to upgrade Swisscom’s optical transport network
Finnish kit vendor Nokia has been chosen by Swiss operator group Swisscom to bring the latest whizzy tech to its optical infrastructure.
What’s more, Nokia is the sole supplier, which possibly isn’t such an unusual thing in the context of optical transport. As you would hope, a bit part of this modernization involves future-proofing the network to make further capacity and bandwidth upgrades easier. This involves injecting a fair bit more automation into the management of the network

    London’s Alleys: Lamb’s Conduit Passage, WC1
This is a well-used passageway in Holborn leading to Red Lion Square that’s a lingering echo of a path through long lost fields.
The fields were turned into fashionable housing in 1684 by Nicholas Barbon, with a much reduced private garden in the centre, and roads leading off following the old farm footpath alignments.
It is claimed, somewhat dubiously, that the bodies of three men who signed King Charles I’s death warrant, Oliver Cromwell, John Bradshaw and Henry Ireton were buried
