    Mobile subscriptions are continuing to rise in India, though the fixed market is increasingly looking prime for disruption as the number of users falls once again.
    According to the latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), mobile subscriptions across the country increased by 0.31% over the three-month period ending in June. Although this might not sound that impressive, 0.31% is the equivalent of 3.65 million subscriptions. The total now stands at 1.165 billion.

    HKmap.live is a crowdsourced web app that shows the location of Hong Kong protests and police activity. Apple has rejected the app version of it.

  • Microsoft gets into the Android smartphone game, or does it?

    At an event devoted to its Surface device range Microsoft teased a new, dual-screen Android smartphone called the Surface Duo.
    This is Microsoft’s first attempt at an Android phone and it gets its name from the fact that it has two screens, joined by a 360-degree hinge, i.e. not a foldy screen.     Google has announced the launch of Action Blocks, allowing users to customise commands for its personal assistant.

  • London’s mainline stations to get free Wi-Fi coverage

    Network Rail has announced that a number of mainline stations are to be fitted with free Wi-Fi services from early next year. Planning for the roll-out of the Wi-Fi service is already underway, with Network Rail awarding a contract to Telent to deliver the scheme, which will cover 20 stations in total.
    Euston and London Bridge stations already provide free Wi-Fi to passengers following an earlier pilot scheme. Wi-Fi will be phased in to the remaining stations across the country from Spring 2020
