An ominous giant sphere could be coming to Stratford, and despite its apocalyptic appearance, it’s actually a concert hall. The MSG Sphere London is a building proposed by The Madison Square Garden Company and if approved by Newham Council, will be identical to the (under construction) MSG Sphere Las Vegas.
Although it looks curved from a distance, a bit like The Gherkin, the curved surface will be made up of flat triangular solid black stainless steel panels with embedded LED pixels, on a

TfL sells off offices above Holborn tube station
TfL has sold the offices and shops above its Holborn tube station for a reported £40 million to an investment company. As part of the sale to Aprirose, TfL will continue to generate ongoing revenue to reinvest in the transport network.
The block, known as Holborn Central is an island site with nearly 69,000 sq ft of multi-let offices and retail above the tube station.
Graeme Craig, Director of Commercial Development at TfL, said: “Our investment strategy will continue to see us under -
Google weighs in with its own AI ethics ideas
Seemingly not happy to let the bureaucrats and legislators dictate the ethical landscape of artificial intelligence, Google has launched its own initiative to join the debate.
In the last couple of months, we have been witness to a flurry of new councils, committees and think tanks, all of whom have been charged with defining reasonable and ethical behaviour surrounding the development of AI. In February, President Trump launched the American AI Initiative, while the UK announced it’s unve -
A display of poisons and lotions
A museum filled with medicines can be found just around the corner from the Tower of London, presumably to offer salves to those who had just lost their heads. As it happens, the museum building is modern, although the collection itself was started in 1842, and ranges from the early days when medications were made in-house by individual pharmacies to the modern day mass production techniques.
It’s however an odd display. This is probably because even people only mildly interested in history -
FTC launches investigation for privacy practices in US
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued orders to seven US broadband providers seeking non-public information to assess privacy practises.
Although this investigation is relatively broad, this might be another attempt from the US Government to get a handle on the privacy practices of the fast-evolving digital economy. Several scandals over the last 18 months have demonstrated current rules are not fit for purpose, containing too many loopholes and inadequately governing an industry which h -
Crossrail extension to Ebbsfleet gets extra funding
Further funding has been provided by the government to investigate options for extending the future Elizabeth line out towards Ebbsfleet in Kent. The planned extension was called for by an investigation into the future economic growth of the Thames Estuary region.
Elizabeth line map with Ebbsfleet extension
In June 2018, the Commission reported their findings and set out a vision that, by 2050, envisages the Estuary potentially creating 1.3 million new jobs, driving £190 billion additional -
Smartphone segment in for another rough year – CCS Insight
Analyst firm CCS Insight is predicting the smartphone segment could be in for another year of drudge, with year-on-year shipments forecast to decline by 3%.
With cash conscious consumers still tending to favour refurbished devices, or holding onto their current smartphones for longer, it seems the sluggish segment could evade the booming landgrabs of yesteryear, that is unless you are a Chinese brand.
“Yearly sales of 2 billion mobile phones seemed so close just a few years ago, but might -
DoJ rumoured to be half-convinced by T-Mobile/Sprint 5G argument
The anti-trust chief in the Department of Justice is said to be receptive to T-Mobile and Sprint’s argument that the combined company will improve America’s competitiveness in 5G.
Fox Business reporter Charlie Gasparino claimed people close to Makan Delrahim, Assistant Attorney General for the DoJ’s Antitrust Division, have disclosed that the department is receptive to the argument that a third strong operator in the US will help the country compete better with China.

Europe officially says no to US on Huawei ban… for the moment
The European Commission has unveiled its recommendations for security mechanisms for the 5G era, and Huawei lives to fight another day, at least for the next couple of months.
While this is the proportionate response many telcos have been calling for, it does not quite give the concrete position of certainty they might have been hoping for. Despite attempts from the US to bend Europe to its will, the bloc will take a risk mitigation approach, though member states have until October 1 to conclude -

Plans to rebuild Clapham Junction Station shown off
Initial plans for a huge rebuild of Clapham Junction station have been shown off, with the rebuilt station sitting underneath a large housing development. The redevelopment would see more trains able to stop at Clapham Junction, and preparatory works for the underground platforms for Crossrail 2 to arrive.
It also results in around 5,000 additional homes being built in the area, with the goal of not so much burying the railway station, but making the space more permeable so that it’s easier -
