The Silicon Valley inquisition gathers pace
A number of independent online commentators have been blacklisted by technology giants for seemingly arbitrary reasons.
The past few weeks have seen another round of purging of content creators who rely on the internet for a living. The reasons for doing so are varied but usually default to some kind of transgression of their terms and conditions of use. However these Ts and Cs tend to be vaguely worded and appear to be selectively enforced, leading to fears that these decisions have been driven -

Japan is the latest country to prohibit Chinese vendors in 5G networks
Huawei and ZTE have been dealt another blow ahead of the 5G bonanza as Japan’s four operators join the government in snubbing Chinese communications equipment.
According to Nikkei Asia Review, the Japan’s telcos have followed the lead of the government by omitting Chinese technology from any future network plans. With Japan set to be one of the leading lights in the 5G era, this is one of the most significant dents in the Huawei and ZTE egos to date.

Vivendi inevitably tries to get rid of some Elliott directors
It was just a matter time before Vivendi reacted to its man being sacked as CEO of TIM and replaced by an Elliott ally.
A month ago the artist formerly known as Telecom Italia sacked its CEO, Amos Genish. The general assumption was that this was due to a disagreement between Genish and the board, which is dominated by activist investor Elliott. But since Genish was appointed back when Vivendi dominated the board, it was assumed to be just a matter of time before Elliott got rid of him.
