• PlayGiga aims to bring gaming-as-a-service to the telco channel

Operators have been obsessed with content for a while but that seldom means games. Spanish startup PlayGiga wants to change that.
The core premise is to offer a cloud gaming platform as a white-label solution to operators, for them to re-badge and then serve up as an additional, novel, product to their subscribers. The service is intended to be consumed in a similar way to Netflix: pay a subscription fee and get limitless access to a curated catalogue of games.

  • Elliott looks to chase Vivendi out of Italy

Vivendi’s influence over TIM despite not owning the company is remarkably strange and it seems activist hedge fund Elliott has finally had enough of it.
According to the FT, the hedge fund is looking to shake things up at TIM by trying to run Vivendi CEO Arnaud de Puyfontaine, who also acts as TIM’s Executive Chairman, as well as four other Vivendi ‘friendlies’ out of the board room. It certainly has been a slow burner, but according to research from EY the smart home revolution is about to catch fire.
Sci-fi films have been stacked to the ceiling with intelligent, connected devices, but in reality adoption has been pretty ordinary, some might even say woeful. In turn this is the sort of thing that needs to be sorted out before the virtualized network utopia we have all been promised can become reality.

In what has been described as the ‘strongest net neutrality policy proposal in the country’, Senator Scott Wiener has tightened up his proposed bill to reinstate net neutrality in California, with the updated version banning zero-rating.
While the net neutrality debate has been quite effective at gaining the support of the general public in the US, perhaps this updated version of SB 822 will catch some by surprise. Up until now legislators and advocates have drummed up backing by foc
