  US operator Verizon has launched SmartHub – a wireless router that is fed by your LTE connection rather than broadband.
  The rationale behind the launch appears to partly to compensate for slow wifi speeds, which is somewhat counter-intuitive, and partly to act as a hub for a bunch of connected home devices via the Verizon Home smartphone app.

  Disruptive US operator T-Mobile is rolling out its DIGITS mobile phone number portability initiative to all customers following a five-month beta.
  At its core DIGITS seems to build on a number of similar initiatives tried out in recent years, the difference being this one is provided by an operator rather than an OTT like Google. Calls to your mobile number can now be picked up by other connected devices, presumably by routing the call though some kind of VoIP interface.

• Operators plead with Europe to deregulate

  The bosses of several of the biggest European operators have written to the EC to objects to proposed amendments to the Electronic Communications Code and ePrivacy Regulation.
  In the letter, which was leaked to the FT, the CEOs of DT, BT, Orange, Telecom Italia and Telefónica assert that amendments to those pieces of legislation, which reverse moves to deregulate included in the original drafts, will harm investment and inhibit the rollout of FTTH and 5G.
