Meet Harry – London’s first driverless shuttlebus
A new trial in the London borough of Greenwich is looking to pave the way for driverless shuttle buses throughout the UK.
The vehicle, which will operate with a trained driver as a fail-safe in the first instance, will operate along a two-mile riverside path near London’s O2 Arena, transporting 100 people over the next couple of weeks, according to the Telegraph. While there might be some scepticism over the safety of driverless vehicles in certain areas, it certainly doesn’t show he

Huawei surprisingly happy about patent court ruling
There seems to be another perspective on the recent UK court ruling regarding the Unwired Planet vs Huawei patent licensing case.
While the Judge ruled that Huawei will need to pay for those Unwired Planet FRAND patents it uses in its handsets, the Chinese giant contacted Telecoms.com to point out that the amount it will have to pay was significantly reduced as a result of the case. As a result Huawei actually views the outcome as a victory.

SIM-only plans to account for 30% of UK market by end of 2017

CCS Insight believe the proportion of SIM-only contracts could account for as much as 34% by the end of the year, compared to 27% at the beginning. It’s a more profitable game as

Huawei could face UK handset injunction after landmark court ruling
The case of Unwired Planet vs Huawei regarding the latter’s licensing of FRAND patents has been decided in favour of the former, a decision that could have global implications.
Patent litigation is hardly a sexy business but in an industry that relies so heavily on countless enabling technologies, IP owners need to be protected if R&D is to be encouraged. The patents in this case, while currently owned by Unwired Planet, appear to have been acquired from Ericsson in 2013. They cover a

WhatsApp set to join the Indian mobile money revolution
Facebook-owned WhatsApp is reportedly looking to get into mobile payments and has picked India as the best place to start.
India is in the middle of an ambitious state-sponsored bid to move away from its current cash-based economy to a digital one. The government kick-started the bid by taking a bunch of currency out of circulation, leading to an entirely predictable wailing and gnashing of teeth. The paid seemed to be short-lived, however, indicating the Indian public is willing to adapt.
