More smartphone users than people with running water in 2021 – Cisco
Cisco has released its annual report predicting the growth of global mobile data traffic will increase seven-fold over the next five years.
The Mobile Visual Networking Index forecast set out some interesting, surprising and occasionally damning predictions for the next couple of years. For example, by 2021 more members of the global population will be using smart phones (5.5 billion) than have bank accounts (5.4 billion) and running water (5.3 billion).
The growth itself will be fuelled mobile

Telecommunications has traditionally been one of those sectors which has been deemed safe, after all, when will communications become redundant? This idea and perception of safety fuelled confidence in the operators, but a wave of internet ready organizations have threatened this cosy lifestyle. Adapt to the digital era or die is t

Telecoms.com ties the knot with Light Reading
Industry news portal Telecoms.com and global comms community Light Reading have tied the knot in a lavish and yet intimate ceremony in New York.

$6.7 billion managed wifi opportunity said to be squandered
New research from XCellAir claims the industry is missing out on a $6.7 billion payday, as the managed wifi segment continues to be largely ignored.

Ericsson and SK Telecom spend a day at the races to demo beamforming
Wireless transmission at 3.6 Gbps to a car travelling at 170 kilometers per hour is not easy, but it remains to be seen how desirable it is.
In an era of constant, incremental pre-5G claims this one at least is a bit more racy (pardon the pun). Ericsson, SK Telecom and BMW have renewed their menage-a-trois, formed last year to look into 5G in an automotive context.
Their first effort merely demonstrated the possibility of using the 28 GHz band to deliver data to a car. Three months of relentless
