Three UK buys UK Broadband and a bunch of spectrum for £250 million
Challenger MNO Three UK is buying UK Broadband for £250 million in an apparent bid to improve its fixed wireless offering and to grab a chunk of high-frequency spectrum.
Three is being somewhat tight-lipped about the acquisition, which would give it 15,000 business customers as well as 124MHz of spectrum in the 3.4-3.8 GHz range, as well as fixed wireless spectrum in the 3.9GHz, 28GHz and 40GHz bands. It’s worth noting that Three and UK Broadband are both ultimately owned by Hong Kon

Huawei gets into bed with Oracle to help flog IoT to utilities
Selling smart-metering IoT cleverness into utilities requires some serious corporate muscle, so two of the biggest have decided to create a dream team.
Huawei loves an MoU (memorandum of understanding), so much so that it literally makes a ceremony out of signing them (pictured). The latest one involves US enterprise software giant Oracle, in a welcome sign that Sino-American business relationships remain indifferent to protectionist sabre-rattling from excitable politicians.

Google case reignites data privacy controversy after contradictory ruling
A Philadelphia-based Judge has ordered Google to hand over emails stored in a non-US data centre to the FBI, despite an Appeals Court in New York striking down a similar case for Microsoft.
The Department of Justice has found it difficult to battle Microsoft in the courts, however it has seemingly found more joy against Google, though the ruling will face an appeal over the coming weeks. US Magistrate Judge Thomas Rueter has decided that while the emails are currently being stored in a non-US da

Nokia reckons Cloud Packet Core is the answer to all your NFV, 5G and IoT needs
The pre-MWC announcement stampede formally started with Nokia claiming cloud leadership and for some reason putting a hashtag in its headline.
Cloud Packet Core is Nokia’s signature product portfolio for helping CSPs migrate their infrastructure into the world of virtualization, IoT and any other buzzword they might be anxious about missing out on. The most recent claim is that it ‘now supports the industry’s widest array of access technologies.’

TIM outlines ambitious content and convergence strategy
The artist formerly known as Telecom Italia has reported a year-on-year revenue decline of 3.5% in 2016, collecting just over €19 billion, but don’t worry it has a cunning plan.
Performances across the year were neither here nor there, as the telco failed to capitalize on its healthy position in the Italian market to take advantage of the transition to the digital economy. While it would hardly be considered blockbuster, the trends were actually quite favourable for the team, setting
