• Financial concerns top global telecoms risk factors

  A survey by accountancy firm BDO has revealed the main risk factors identified by global telecoms companies all concern finance and macroeconomics.
  82% of those surveyed identified currency fluctuations, interest rates and liquidity as a top risk, with access to finance next on 75%. Only then came things like competition, new technology and cyber security.

  MTN has appointed Rob Shuter as its new CEO, following the resignation of Sifiso Dabengwa after the Nigerian business unit was fined $5.2 billion after failing to manage its subscriber base appropriately.

• Ericsson comments on US and Greek corruption investigations

  Swedish networking giant Ericsson has issued statements on two historical corruption investigations still underway in the US and Greece.
  Last week Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet reported Ericsson was being investigated over alleged corruption in its Chinese operations. Apparently a recently-fired manager in Ericsson’s Asian business had been linked to an Ericsson subcontractor which had acquired the virtual monopoly to supply Ericsson in China.
