Iran has banned cryptocurrency mining over the summer ahead of an anticipated surge in electricity demand, Bloomberg reported.
The ban is effective immediately until September 22.
Approximately 4.5% of all bitcoin mining occurs in Iran, according to Elliptic.

Amazon said Wednesday that it would buy Hollywood giant MGM Studios for $8.45 billion.
MGM Holdings has been exploring a sale since at least December.
MGM Studios' catalog includes TV shows alongside the James Bond, Rocky, and Pink Panther franchises.
