The price of a single bitcoin exceeded $10,000 for the first time since March 2018 on Friday, according to CoinDesk.
The milestone followed Facebook's June 18 announcement that it will introduce a digital currency, Libra, and an app, Calibra, that will allow users to send and receive the currency and use it to make purchases online.
Bitcoin's price has experienced significant volatility during the past two years, rising to nearly $20,000 in December 2017 before falling to around $3,200 a year la

Larry Ellison explains Oracle's restructuring and layoffs: Some of our business units are 'melting away' and 'we just don't care' (ORCL)
Oracle has been conducting rolling layoffs worldwide since March, impacting all sorts of units, including its all-important cloud divisions.
On Wednesday, Oracle founder, chairman and CTO Larry Ellison gave some insight into what's going on.
Some business units are not doing well and Oracle is content to let them whither, he explained.
Other units are growing fast and they are the company's future.

Gun and ammo sellers are suffering from a lack of 'fear-based buying' because no one's worried about gun control under Donald Trump
Some of America's biggest sellers of guns and ammo are suffering from a lack of "fear-based buying," as consumers aren't worried about stricter gun control while Donald Trump is in office.
Ammo sales have been hit by consumers buying fewer bullets because they stockpiled during past scares.
"All of the best minds predicted that the recovery would take 18 to 24 months, and here we are at well over 2 years without the market rebounding," said one executive.

Slack has made chat hot. But here's why Google's Gmail product boss says chat is going to be swallowed up by email. (GOOG, GOOGL, WORK)
With Slack going public this week, Business Insider recently sat down with Jacob Bank, Gmail's director of product management, to learn more about Google's enterprise chat strategy.
Bank said an important update will come later this summer when its team chat product, Hangouts Chat, moves into Gmail.
"There's the classic user that likes to keep email and chat separately," Bank said. "But according to our research, the vast majority are just frustrated by having to constantly keep tabs -
The big question about Tesla demand makes no sense. The company has created demand where there was none before. (TSLA)
Tesla supporters and detractors are engaged in a fierce argument about whether Tesla has adequate demand for its all-electric cars.
The debate is irrelevant — Tesla created demand where there formerly wasn't much, if any.
That demand is sustainable, at modest levels.
Wasting time arguing about it is undermining progress on dealing with global warming.

Stocks are fresh off all-time highs. Now analysts are laying out what could drag them back down to earth.
The S&P 500 soared to a record high this week for the first time since May, even as investors await a US-China trade deal that may not materialize and grapple with a slowing global economy.
What could go wrong?
A growing swath of strategists and economists say the market has grown too optimistic, and are advising clients against ignoring mounting risks stateside and outside of the US.

Inside Slack's direct listing; State Street goes toe-to-toe with BlackRock
Dear readers,
Slack's non-IPO was no doubt the big story of the week, with its success leading some to predict the market could soon see many more direct listings.
Colin Stewart, Morgan Stanley's lead banker on Slack's public debut, told Bloomberg we could see as many as five direct listings in 2020. To put that into context, the only two high profile direct listings in the last two years have been Slack and Spotify. Direct listings differ from typical initial public offerings in t -
The Fed just quietly acknowledged that it made a policy blunder last year — and escalated the stakes for investors as the next recession looms
The Federal Reserve overplayed its hand last year by raising interest rates four times, according to one Wall Street expert.
It is now having to consider its first rate cut since the financial crisis.
This new reality, combined with the threat from the trade war, raises the stakes for investors and could lead to market volatility in the coming weeks.

Uber and Lyft are fighting tooth and nail against a California bill that could make some drivers employees and bankrupt both companies (UBER, LYFT)
A proposed California law could classify ride-hailing drivers as employees, instead of contractors, based on a three-part employment test.
Wall Street analysts say that Uber and Lyft drivers are likely to pass the test — and that the change could bankrupt both companies.
Lyft maintains that it is committed to increasing driver pay, and executives from both companies outlined a plan for drivers in an op-ed last week.
But supporters of the bill say Uber and Lyft are misleading drivers and th
