YouTube announced in a company blog post on Friday that it would recommend less "borderline" content, or videos that are untruthful in potentially harmful ways.
Examples of videos YouTube hopes to promote less often include ones that claim that the Earth is flat or promote phony cures for serious illnesses.
"We think this change strikes a balance between maintaining a platform for free speech and living up to our responsibility to users," YouTube said in its blog post.

Wall Street is getting one critical thing wrong on Ferrari (RACE)
Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas suggested that Ferrari could be shifting to all-electric vehicles in the future.
Ferrari investors, Jonas thinks, could be underestimating the costs of this shift.
Except that although Ferrari could produce some all-electric cars, it can never renounce its commitment to internal combustion — because racing runs on gas.
For years, Ferrari scoffed at electric cars. True, the Italian automaker added hybrid-electric technology to its stratospherically expensive LaFe -
Facebook exec Andrew Bosworth broke the social network's rule on using your real name for 8 years (FB)
Facebook executive Andrew Bosworth is breaking Facebook's rules on using your real name.
Bosworth lists his name on his personal profile only as "Boz," his nickname — something ordinary users can't do.
Facebook has been repeatedly criticised over its real name policy, which critics say can unfairly penalize LGBTQ users and others.
But the double-standard for Bosworth suggests the company is less concerned with enforcing the rules for its own leadership team. One of Facebook's most high-prof -

The government shutdown is now in its 35th day, far surpassing the record for the longest of the modern era.
This is the 21st time the federal government has had a funding lapse since the modern budgeting process began.
Most of those times, the shutdown has been short and not involved employees being sent home, but that has changed in recent years.President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders have yet to come to an agreement to reopen the government, pushing the government shutdown into a histor -
Amazon needs to do one thing to dominate the beauty industry, analyst says (AMZN)
While Amazon has successfully disrupted many industries, one space where the tech giant is not yet a major threat is beauty retail.
Consumers are opting for specialty retailers such as Sephora and Ulta Beauty as their shopping destination for prestigious beauty brands, according to Jefferies analyst Stephanie Wissink.
Amazon can sell beauty products within the price sweet spot of $20-$30, but brand access is the key to winning customers, Wissink said.

HSBC launches ‘sound identity’ in next phase of brand refresh
When it comes to refreshing a brand, a lot of companies will look at their visual identity, updating logos, changing fonts and drawing together brand iconography. Fewer think about other aspects of a brand, such as what it might sound like (or smell like).
However, given the need to cut-through in an increasingly competitive ad landscape, sound can be a key trigger and a brand differentiator. You only have to think of Int -

Instead of seeking certainty in our careers for 2019, we should be exploring scenarios. Scenarios enable us to think about different options for how our careers might evolve. Reflecting on which career sc -
Mark Zuckerberg wrote 1,000 words defending Facebook, but the most interesting thing about it was where he published it (FB)
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has written a column for the Wall Street Journal defending his company.
The op-ed piece's location is arguably the most interesting thing about it.
It indicates Facebook wants to reassure the newspaper's influential audience — including investors and politicians — that the company still serves an important purpose.
Otherwise, there's little new in the column: It debunks some misconceptions around how Facebook's business works, and lays out how it helps sm -

7 reasons Trump is wrong about China's economy and why it will make it through the trade war just fine
Even with the wildly low expectations heading into its release, last week's China's December trade report was a horror show, Business Insider Australia's David Scutt wrote.
Then on Monday, China announced its official GDP came in at 6.6% for 2018, the slowest pace of growth since 1990. This was music to the ears of US President Donald Trump who triumphantly tweeted that it made sense now for a battered China to make trade-war concessions.
