The ruble is shaking off Obama's sanctions against the Russian government
The Russian ruble is seeing little response to President Barack Obama issuing new sanctions against Russia for its alleged role in election hacking.
Obama called the hacks "malicious cyber-related activities" that were aimed at undermining the "democratic processes." He ordered the removal of 35 Russian diplomats from the United States in addition to announcing the closure of two Russian compounds in New York and Maryland in response to "Russian harassment of Americ -

If you are looking to make money in the stock market next month, your strategy should be to buy the S&P 500's worst-performing stocks of 2016.
That's according to Nautilus Investment Research which measured the "Dogs of the S&P Effect," or "the tendency of the prior year’s laggards to outperform the prior year’s leaders."
The laggards tend to outperform leaders by an average of 4.84% in January "as tax loss selling abates and bottom fishers enter the scen -

Disney was the biggest contributor to the record-breaking year, taking in over $7 billion at the worldwide box office thanks to titles like "Captain America: Civil War," "Finding Dory," and "Zootopia," which all earned over $1 billion in worldwide earnings.

New York's incredibly expensive new subway explains why we can't have nice things
As President-elect Donald Trump is about to take office having promised a burst of infrastructure spending, it's worth taking a look at the newest, shiniest piece of infrastructure in Manhattan and what it says about why it's so hard to get anything big built in major American cities.
On January 1, the Second Avenue subway extension will open about 100 years after it was first proposed — or at least, a little bit of it will, running from 63rd Street to 96th Street.
It's pretty and shiny, a -
Here's why Tesla owners love their cars so much (TSLA)
Consumer Reports recently brought out its yearly Owner Satisfaction Survey, and Tesla finished number one, with a whopping 91% of owners saying they'd buy a Tesla vehicle if they had it to do all over again.
That's an astounding figure in a highly competitive industry. It's like a Major League Baseball player batting .900.
In practice, it means that Tesla owners are impossible to "conquest," or woo to other brands, a situation that all the automakers aiming to take on Tesla in the future sh -
The GOP might not repeal Obamacare until after the 2020 election
With the election of Donald Trump as president, Republican lawmakers finally have a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, the healthcare law better known as Obamacare, in their sights.
But while Republicans control the presidency and both houses of Congress, a repeal of Obamacare may not come as soon as "day one" the way leaders like Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell have said.
According to Bloomberg's Sahil Kapur, there is no consensus among Republicans as to when a repeal should take place, but -
Struggling Sears is borrowing another $200 million from its CEO to stay afloat (SHLD)
Sears is borrowing more money from CEO Eddie Lampert's hedge fund to stay afloat.
The company announced Thursday that it obtained a loan called a secured standby letter of credit for an initial $200 million, with the option to expand the amount to $500 million.
This particular kind of loan comes with a guarantee on behalf of the lenders that Sears' suppliers will be paid, should the company default on its debt.
The loan is being provided by JPP, LLC and JPP II, LLC, which are affiliates of Lampe -
Trump's pick for budget chief loves gold and bitcoin
The man in line to bring together President-elect Donald Trump's federal budget is a big believer in gold, according to financial disclosures.

According to the filings, Mulvaney held $50,000 to $100,000 in precious metals at the end of 2015. In addition, the South Carolina congressman holds stock in numer -

Initial claims decline by 10,000 as expected
Initial jobless claims fell by 10,000 to 265,000 this week, matching forecasts, according to the Department of Labor.
It was the 95th week with claims under 300,000, the longest streak since 1970. The Labor Department reported no special factors influencing this week's report.
The four-week average of claims, which evens out volatility, fell by 750 to 263,000.
Initial claims provide a reading of the labor market's health and the pace of layoffs.
