Carbon emission from the retail industry are 11% above those published when the sector rolled out its flagship strategy to hit net zero, according to a new report.
Estimated UK retail emissions for 2024 were 331m tonnes of CO2 equivalent, from 298m tonnes in 2019, five years after the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) Climate Action Roadmap was launched, The Grocer reported.

Asda is pushing ahead with its plans to axe 5,000 SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit) as part of efforts to simplify its supply chain and shelves.
The grocery giant said that “north of 4,000” SKUs had been scrapped from its shops since chair Allan Leighton outlined Asda’s plan to ditch 5,000 to 6,000 lines over the next 12 months in March, The Grocer reported.

Former Poundland owner Pepco reports £3.9bn in revenue
Pepco Group has recorded an 8.7% increase in total revenue to €4.5 billion (£3.9 billion).
According to the business, the growth was driven by a 2.6% increase in like-for-like (LFL) and a new store expansion.
The group, which formerly owned Poundland, published its preliminary results today (3 December) for the 12 months ending 30 September 2025.

Inflation falls but food prices remain higher than last year
UK inflation fell to 3.2% in the 12 months to November.
The data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed inflation was at its lowest in eight months but was still above the 2% target set by the Bank of England.
