Supermarket chiefs call for 2027 deposit return scheme start date to be scrapped
Supermarket bosses have called on the government to further postpone the rollout of the deposit return scheme.
The (British Retail Consortium) BRC has written to environment secretary Steve Reed stating that the proposed October 2027 start date is “not feasible” given the threat to food inflation and high infrastructure costs, The Grocer reported.

Tesco Marketplace has expanded and now carries over 300,000 stock keeping units (SKUs), less than eight months since its rollout.
The items available on the grocery giant’s marketplace have increased by more than 3,000% since its launch, according to The Grocer.

Primark prepares to open first-ever standalone homewares store
Primark has confirmed that its first standalone homewares store will open in Belfast city centre this March.
The 8,700sq ft Primark Home store will launch at Fountain House, housing some of the high street giant’s most popular homeware items include bedding, towels, and ceramics.

Deliveroo spend and orders rise driven by retail and grocery push
Deliveroo saw orders and spending rise in its fourth quarter, driven by its retail and grocery partnerships despite weakened UK consumer confidence.
Its number of orders in the UK and Ireland increased 5% to £43.1m over the period.

Poundland saw sales nosedive in the quarter to December 31, driven by continued weak clothing and general merchandise performance as well as challenging market conditions.
Like-for-like sales at the value retailer slumped 7.3% for its first quarter ended 31 December. Dunelm sales rose in its second quarter and first half overall bolstered by a strong performance online, despite facing a “challenging market”.
