Ikea UK sales slide after investment in price cuts
Ikea UK sales slid in its latest financial year, as it invested further into slashing prices.
The homewares giant’s sales dropped 6.8% to £2.3bn in the year to 31 August, which it said was due to its “strategic decision” to prioritise affordability and invest more than £117m into cutting prices.
The cuts were focused on some of the retailer’s most popular items, with 33% of its range reduced in total with an average price reduction of 20%.

Uniqlo owner Fast Retailing’s profits have skyrocketed as the group’s focus in Western markets amid a downturn in its home region has paid off.

Aldi is set to take on 3,500 extra store workers in the lead up to Christmas as it prepares for the festive season.
The discount grocer is recruiting for a range of permanent store positions, including store assistants, managerial positions and cleaners.

N Brown has swung to a pre-tax profit in its first half despite falling sales as its digital overhaul takes effect.
The Jacamo, JD Williams and Simply Be owner reported a profit before tax of £200,000 in the 26 weeks to 31 August, up from the £2.8m loss from the year before.

End Clothing has been acquired by private equity giant Apollo, three years after previous owner The Carlyle Group bought the business.
It comes as the luxury streetwear retailer’s lenders and shareholders have finalised an agreement to recapitalise the business, Drapers reported.
