Digital industry needs to ‘press the restart button’ and go back to basics, says Mondelez’s Ahmed Emad
The future for FMCG brands online should be content monetisation and the digital industry is at risk of becoming over-hyped, over-complicated and too dependent on awards, according to Mondelez’s regional manager of media, consumer engagement and agency relations in the Middle East, Ahmed Emad.
Emad, who works across all Mondelez brands including Oreo, Ritz and Trident gum, believes that instead of chasing technology, brands need to concentrate on what consumers love without over-complicati -
T-Mobile ordered to pay $48m settlement over unclear unlimited streaming offer
T-Mobile USA has been ordered to pay a fine and provide benefits to consumers totaling at least $48m following an investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) into whether the company adequately disclosed speed and data restrictions for its ‘unlimited’ data plans.
The FCC said that it received complaints from T-Mobile and MetroPCS customers who felt misled after discovering their unlimited data plan included ‘de-prioritised’ data speeds after exc -
Volvo's first self driving cars will be unmarked to avoid other drivers from 'challenging' them
Volvo's first self driving cars to hit Britain's roads will look no different to its other models to avoid other motorists from trying to "challenge" them.
The car marque's pilot project to lease the first autonomous vehicles to everyday drivers will see 100 self-driving 4x4 vehicles take to the busy main roads into London from 2018.
Erik Coelingh, senior technical leader at Volvo Cars said the decision to make the cars unidentifiable from regular vehicles comes a -
Is Facebook allowing ads that discriminate against ethnicity?
Facebook is allegedly allowing advertisers to post adverts on their platform that can exclude users based on their ethnic origin.
The social media giant's ad platform allows advertisers to target specific user groups based on information provided by Facebook users, however a report by non-profit investigative journalism group ProPublica said that the system is being used to exclude specific groups it calls 'Ethnic Affinities,' that include black, Hispanic, Asian Am -

Dentsu is set to pay back an estimated 230 million yen ($2.3 million) to clients after the agency uncovered a raft of discrepancies, including some cases where fees were charged and no internet advertising placement was made.
The Japanese ad agency's client Toyota was the first to point out a discrepancy, sparking an investigation in to transactions dating back to November 2012, according to Bloomberg.
Dentsu uncovered 633 suspicious cases affecting 111 advertisers -
London Fashion Week rebrands, moves its three bi-annual events to Store Studios
The British Fashion Council (BFC) is set to move its two bi-annual events, London Fashion Week and London Fashion Week Festival to join London Fashion Week Men’s at The Store Studios in central London.
As part of the move, the event formerly known as London Fashion Weekend will be renamed London Fashion Week Festival and will give the public the opportunity to celebrate fashion over a period of ten days, twice a year, in February and September.

House of Fraser rallies against the ‘Festive Fuzzy’ for second year (this time with the help of a Fugees cover)
House of Fraser is continuing its crusade against the emotionally pumped adverts that make their way on to screens at Christmas and will roll out a campaign this year that it hopes will help it stand out from the usual festive weepies. And once again, the brand is relying on a unique song choice to do the job.
Wooing shoppers with an “antidote to the festive fuzzy” is something the high street retailer committed to last year, steering away from heart-wrenching stories (and old men on -
Chipotle can’t catch a break: former worker accuses company of trying to cheat employees
Chipotle’s reputation has been spiraling downward faster than you can say burrito. The beleaguered fast Mexican chain first had to deal with a drawn-out E. Coli outbreak. Then, attempts to get customers back failed, including a bonus points system that was not worth it to most consumers. The company then became embroiled in a federal ruling saying that its social media policy violated the National Labor Relations Act.
Now, an ex-employee of Chipotle is saying that the company fired him for
