What is the one thing that all advertisers, content creators, application developers, and tech companies should all wake up in the morning thinking about?
People's privacy.
Why?
It’s the single greatest thing getting in the way between creators and consumers. Today, more than three-quarters of Americans worry about their online privacy. This unprecedented mistrust from the public is having a dismal effect on our industry. And yet, we’re the ones causing this breach of trust. Our

Podcasts are personal — and allow the right brands to whisper in consumer ears, too
Podcasts like This American Life and Serial attract millions of listeners in part because “a podcast is on-demand audio and on-demand is where it’s at,” said E.B. Moss, owner of marketing agency Moss Appeal and contributing writer at MediaVillage.com, at the recent IAB Mixx event in New York.
But audience size is far from the only reason marketers should consider podcasts.
To wit: In order to listen to a podcast, consumers must find and select a podcast, making an active decisi -
Why Madison Avenue and Silicon Valley are co-dependent
At IAB Mixx last week, Nick Law, global chief creative officer at R/GA, pointed to Madison Avenue, which tends to have great nostalgia for the simpler time embodied in Mad Men, and Silicon Valley, which, like the HBO series of the same name, is on the other end of the spectrum, looking toward the future with a “crazy utopian view.”
“No one is in the present,” Law said. “These are very different cultures.”
But, funny enough, the two need each other because crea -
Whoops! LA’s ABC affiliate accidentally names Bradley manager of Chelsea instead of Swansea
You’ll have to excuse us. Well, you’ll have at least excuse the ABC television affiliate in Los Angeles when they erroneously reported that Bob Bradley, today hired by Swansea City of the Premier League was, in fact, hired as the manager of Chelsea.
It’s quite a different location, both physically and in the standings, with the Welsh club Swansea sitting in 17th place, just outside the relegation zone — and Chelsea getting back to form somewhat and currently in 7th, five -
David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox leaves behind a magnificent brand for franchise
The Boston sports community saw its idol David Ortiz play his final regular season game on Sunday and, by all accounts, the tributes to one of the greatest hitters also shed light on how he helped rebrand the Red Sox franchise during his career.
In 14 seasons with the Red Sox, Ortiz, or "Big Papi," a most singular nickname, not only helped the team win their first World Series since 1918 in the 2004 season, but his talent and personality re-kindled and intensified great rivalries like -

Programmatic video advertising spend takes off with main focus on YouTube
Advertiser adoption of programmatic video is on the rise, with 60 per cent of U.S. digital video ad spending expected to be transacted through programmatic channels this year.
This will be a substantial increase from the 39 per cent share held by programmatic video over last year, with an eMarketer report stating that one of the main contributors to programmatic video ad spending growth is YouTube. Further, latest estimates indicate nearly 21 per cent of US digital video ad revenues in 201 -

Pentagon admits funding online propaganda war against Isis
The Pentagon has admitted it enlisted PR firms to combat the Islamic State’s propaganda machine on social media, according to a report from the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
An investigation into the departments PR spend found that it, between 2006 to 2011, paid $540m to British PR firm Bell Pottinger to, among other things, create fake al Qaeda propaganda videos that could track viewers across the web.
Following this, the Pentagon has admitted it is also channeling its PR -
Mimi Turner leaves the Lad Bible in midst of staff exodus
Mimi Turner, marketing director at the Lad Bible, has become the latest in a string of senior staff to leave the publisher.
The PR-savvy marketer confirmed her exit with a tweet (see below) this evening (3 October), bringing an end to what she described as an “incredible two years” at the publisher. Turned declined to add any further comment when approached by The Drum.

The 6 biggest threats to creative ideas and how to avoid them
In our world there are so many amazing creative ideas that don't make it through to fruition. Even at business level, creative directors often complain when an awesome idea fails to get sold onto the client, or gets dropped half-way through production.
It’s easy to see why they get frustrated - it will undoubtedly be realised at another agency, within the start-up world, or as a product for a big company in due course.
Fair enough, sometimes the idea isn’t quite right – p -
Hill Holliday's CCO Lance Jensen gives his thoughts on what it takes to be a great creative
The Drum recently caught up with Hill Holliday’s chief creative officer Lance Jensen to find out what he thinks it takes to be a great creative.
Jensen, who has been leading creative at the IPG shop for more than five years, said that creativity isn’t about puffery – it’s about finding a brand’s true essence and values and then communicating them to people in a way that is “culturally relevant” and “socially significant.”

Creative Work of the Week: The New York Bakery Company introduces Bagel lovers to 'Trumpsy'
The New York Bakery company has called on the help of two familiar floppy-haired politicians for its fresh 'Speak Cheesy' campaign to promote its cheese-flavoured snacks.
The tongue-in-cheek ad has clearly gone down well with readers of The Drum's Creative Department who named the multi-media push Creative Work of the Week.
One of the pre-roll executions of the campaign depicts a phone conversation between 'Borisy' and 'Trumpsy' who speak to each other in cheesy language from across the Atl -
Marketers still have ‘their heads in the sand’ around agency rebates, claims RBS Group CMO
It is a “surprise” the practice of agency rebates isn’t a bigger issue, according to David Wheldon, CMO of the RBS Group.
Over recent months, the ANA has claimed senior executives at ad agencies are aware and regularly mandate controversial practices that are often not disclosed to clients. These include cash rebates, rebates as inventory credits and ‘service agreements’ for non-media services such as consulting or research.
In April, meanwhile, ISBA announced a new -

Recent ratings suggest that MSNBC finished seventh overall in primetime, averaging over 1m viewers, while CNN’s 723,000 average viewers placed it at No. 16 among all cable networks in a late summe -

Tesla delivery numbers jump 70 per cent
Tesla’s job of playing catch-up with its deliveries seems to be paying off, as the electric automaker announced that is delivered roughly 24,500 vehicles in Q3, an increase of just over 70 per cent from the previous quarter’s deliveries, according to a press release by the company.
Considering Tesla’s parts shortages and production issues earlier in the year, the increase is welcome and includes 15,800 Model S cars and 8,700 Model X. The release also stated that in addition to -
The value of recognizing programmatic in the advertising industry
Who doesn’t love to debate a listicle? “Top 10 cities in America to live in,” or “the top 10 public universities.” We all take pride in our roots and experiences and love to compare and contrast, especially in a contest format.
Half the fun in this discussion is that the conversation is debatable and not empirical. The lists are subjective by nature as there are no bits of objective data that can back up why Seattle is a better city to live in than Chicago, for exam -
TalkTalk hopes a move away from ‘gimmicky advertising’ will win back trust
TalkTalk today (3 October) unveiled its new ‘This Stuff Matters’ campaign, which aims to move away from its past ‘loud and gimmicky’ advertising by focusing more closely on its existing customers.

Why do brands ignore micro-influencers?
In today’s world, the word ‘influencer’ has taken on a new meaning. While celebrities are still admired, a new breed of micro-influencers have risen through social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat, and are influencing consumer habits.
These micro-influencers are regular people, not celebrities, who can have up to 10,000 social media followers and therefore the power to shape brand image.
But brands are not focusing on the ‘influential’ value their everyday cus
