• Environment Agency condemned over pay imposition

    UNISON has today condemned the decision of the Environment Agency (EA) to implement a 2% + £345 pay offer for staff while, at the same time, imposing worse terms in contracts for new workers joining the agency.
    UNISON national secretary Donna Rowe-Merriman stated: “When this pay offer by the EA is implemented, workers will clearly see just how ineffective the award is at tackling the increasing cost of living.
    “UNISON members are in serious need of an improved pay outcome.
  • UNISON police and justice conference opens in Telford

    Hundreds of delegates gathered in Telford today for UNISON’s police and justice service group conference, in order to decide the union’s priorities for over 50,000 members working in the sector across the England, Scotland and Wales.
    UNISON represents people working in policing and probation, from call handlers and community support officers probation officers, custody assistants, cleaners and canteen staff, with 60% of police staff being women.

    Commenting on the resignation of the prime minister Liz Truss, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said: “This farce cannot go on. The Conservatives have shown themselves unfit to govern.
    “The crisis affecting the country is so deep that the only solution is to have an election. There should be one immediately so voters can choose a government to get the country back on its feet.”
