  Every day we’re confronted with increasingly dire warnings about the state of the UK’s economy. We’re told a recession is on its way, the Bank of England continues to hike up interest rates and inflation just keeps on rising.
  And this morning, we learned from the latest labour market statistics, that for seven months in a row, workers’ wages have fallen. In the last quarter, wages were 3% lower in real terms than last year.

  The TUC and UNISON are stepping up their cost of living campaigning this autumn, with two dates to lobby MPs at Westminster.
  Coming after June’s major TUC demonstration in London, which launched the We Demand Better campaign, the fight for a pay rise will target MPs in their local constituencies and at the Houses of Parliament, with public service workers attending to make the politicians listen.

• Care staff announce new strike dates over pay, says UNISON

  Care workers, registered nurses and residential home staff employed by Bristol-based St Monica Trust will take further strike action next week, said UNISON.Staff at the Russets and Sherwood care home in Sandford, North Somerset, will walk out for 48 hours from 7am on Tuesday 16 August, while workers at Cote Lane in Bristol will launch a two-day strike from Friday 19 August.The new dates follow five days of action in June and July over fire and rehire threats and cuts to
