    Pensions hike could be ‘a step too far’ for many NHS staff, says UNISON 
    Commenting on government changes to NHS pensions in England and Wales, which will mean many health workers paying more towards their retirement, UNISON head of health Sara Gorton said: 
    “Asking ​many ​demoralised NHS staff to shell out more ​for their pensions could prove a step too far.
    “Even though the changes won’t kick in until later in the year, the cost of living crisis will be far from over by the autumn. ​

    Commenting on the latest consumer prices index (CPI) inflation figures today (Wednesday), UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:“This is the stuff of nightmares. Households already feeling the pinch will be aghast at this latest hike in living costs.“For many low and middle earners, food, energy and transport are quickly becoming unaffordable luxuries.“Record numbers of workers are leaving the labour market and employers are struggling to fill vacancies.
