The introduction of a long-awaited update to the risk placing
platform at the heart of the London market reform programme has
been delayed by a nearly a month, a spokesperson from Placing
Platform Limited (PPL) has said.
The latest version of PPL, a computer system that allows brokers
to electronically place risks, was expected to go live in
mid-September.
However, problems transferring data have led the contractor,
Ebix, to delay the release of the software until 9 October.

Irma claims reach $1.95bn in Florida
Almost $2bn in claims tied to Hurricane Irma have been received by
insurers in Florida, the state industry regulator said today.
The east coast of the Sunshine State contributed the bulk of
preliminary insurance claims filed as a result of Irma, despite the
storm tracking up the peninsula's west side, according to data

HCI anticipates $100mn-$300mn gross Irma loss
HCI said its main operating subsidiary, Homeowners Choice
Property & Casualty Insurance Company, expects a loss from
Hurricane Irma of $100mn to $300mn, which will fall mainly on its
reinsurers.
The Florida-based carrier said the expected losses at Homeowners
Choice will exceed the division's $16mn reinsurance retention
level and "trigger reinsurance recoveries, as well as trigger
the loss of accrued benefits and deferrals under retrospective
provisions within certain reinsurance contracts". -
Former Hiscox active underwriter returns with start-up
Russell Merrett, the former chief underwriting officer at
Hiscox's reinsurance arm, is one of the founding investors of
new InsurTech insurance platform Kinsu.
Merrett left Hiscox in 2013 after more than 16 years with the
firm, most recently as managing director for Hiscox London Market.
He was also active underwriter for Syndicate 33, latterly alongside
Paul Lawrence.
Kinsu is a home contents insurance app originally founded in
December 2016 and due to go live in the coming months.

Turkish storm insured losses reach $300mn: PCS
Insured losses from two Turkish hailstorm and flooding events in
July have hit $300mn, according to an estimate from Property Claim
Services (PCS).
Torrential rains on 27 July left parts of Istanbul underwater,
while hail damaged at least one jet aircraft.
Another storm on 18 July also led to flash floods in Istanbul,
the country's largest city.

ICNZ tallies $1.5bn in Kaikoura claims
The Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ) said private insurers
expect to have paid most claims arising from the Kaikōura
earthquake last November and the Edgecumbe flood in April by
year-end.
The total value of insurance claims for the Kaikōura
earthquake as at 31 August was over NZ$2.0bn ($1.5bn), with
commercial claims accounting for NZ$1.48bn and residential claims
amounting to nearly NZ$550mn, the ICNZ said.

Hiscox shares fell on Monday morning in London after the carrier
said it is expecting net claims of around $150mn from Hurricane
Harvey, based on an industry loss estimate of $25bn.
Its shares were down 2.9 percent at 1,215 pence as of 10:11 UK
