Bishopsgate has hired two senior brokers from rivals THB and
Lockton as it continues its buildout, The Insurance Insider

Matt Edwards is set to join the broker early next month to head

Meanwhile, former Lockton professional indemnity broker Paul
"Charlie" Browne has been appointed to run a rival team
at Towergate.

Fitch downgrades P&C sector outlook to negative
Fitch Ratings has downgraded its outlook for the property and
casualty sector to negative from stable, citing rising competition
and deteriorating profitability in a persistently soft market
heading into 2017.
"Pricing continues to trend unfavourably in most major P/C
segments and there is no catalyst in sight in 2017 that would
promote a meaningful shift in pricing trends" said Fitch
managing director James Auden in a report released today.
Profitability and market conditions are unlikely to im -

Kaikoura quake losses up to $2bn: NZ Treasury
The Kaikoura earthquake could result in economic losses of NZ$2bn
to NZ$3bn ($1.4bn-$2.1bn), according to estimates from the New

Defense costs under directors' and officers' (D&O)
policies have almost doubled in the past six years, according to
Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS).
In a recent report, the insurer pointed to a global trend of
D&O claims being dragged out, resulting in lengthier legal
battles that increase settlement expectations and rack up legal
fees.
As an example, AGCS highlighted US securities class action
cases, which tend to take three to six years to conclude and cost

Cost cutting is 'not a strategy': Allianz CEO
Allianz CEO Oliver Bäte today rejected speculation that his
firm will embark on an efficiency drive like that of peers Generali
and Zurich, arguing that cost cutting "is not a
strategy".
During questioning by analysts at the firm's capital market
day, Bäte said cost-cutting regimes result from
management's failure to "mend the ship" and invest in
a business effectively in previous years.
A company's management then unveils higher dividends and
share buybacks to compensate, the CEO adde -
