• Exor completes $6.9bn PartnerRe takeover

    Italian investment vehicle Exor today (18 March) completed its
    acquisition of Bermudian carrier PartnerRe, bringing to a close a
    14-month period during which its ownership has been in
    question.
    Exor struck a deal to acquire PartnerRe in August last year,
    overcoming opposition from Bermudian carrier Axis, which had
    previously agreed a deal to buy the pure-play reinsurer.
    Exor will pay $6.9bn, or $140.50 a share, which comprises a
    $137.50 per share cash consideration and the $3.00 pre-close
    divide
  • Channel hires Watson as A&H head

    Scor-owned the Channel Syndicate has hired Gavin Watson from Sompo
    Canopius as its head of accident and health (A&H),
    The Insurance Insider can reveal.
    Watson replaces Neil Whitbread, who left the firm to launch
    Ascot's A&H business in December last year.
    He will report to active underwriter Tom Corfield.
    Watson was head of international A&H at Lloyd's peer
    Sompo Canopius, having originally joined the firm in 2006 after
    Canopius acquired his former employer Creechurch Underwriting.

  • AmTrust frontrunner to acquire ANV

    Distressed M&A specialist AmTrust looks the likeliest
    acquirer of troubled Lloyd's insurer ANV as the carrier's
    auction process draws to its close, The Insurance
    Insider can reveal.
    Sources said that the serial acquirer was one of the final
    bidders in the process, along with New York-listed carrier
    Argo.
    A range of carriers have been linked with bids for ANV, which is
    owned by Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, but most have fallen
    away.
