• Sompo Canopius appoints global marine head

  Lloyd's carrier Sompo Canopius has appointed Mike Southgate
  as global head of marine, energy and engineering, it announced
  today (2 March).
  Southgate was previously joint active underwriter at Montpelier
  Syndicate 5151.
  He will also join the group underwriting committee and will
  report to chief underwriting officer Mike Duffy.
  Separately, global head of marine Joyce Webb is set to retire in

  Marsh has appointed Gary Reeve as head of first party claims for
  its UK specialties division.
  Reeve will act as a senior claims advocate for Marsh's
  clients on large complex energy, property and construction claims.
  He will also manage the claims teams at the firm's energy and
  construction practices and Bowring Marsh, Marsh's international
  wholesale placement broker.

• Philipps named executive officer of Mitsui international ops

  Mitsui Sumitomo has appointed MS Amlin CEO Charles Philipps as
  one of three new executive officers at its international business,
  it announced yesterday (1 March).
  Hideyuki Tanaka, general manager of the international business,
  and Shinichi Imayoshi, director of MSIG Holdings Europe, have also
  been appointed as executive officers of the group's
  international operations, of which MS Amlin is a part.
  Philipps will become the second ever non-Japanese executive

  Munich Re has warned that severe thunderstorms have the
  potential to cause increasing insured losses in Europe due to the
  region experiencing more intense storms.
  Increased vulnerability of new building facades to hail damage
  also creates greater risk, the world's largest reinsurer said

• Floridian insurers assume 81,500 Citizens policies

  Heritage, Anchor P&C Insurance and Southern Oak can seek to
  assume a combined 81,500 personal and commercial insurance policies
  from state-backed carrier Citizens Property Insurance after
  receiving approval from the Floridian regulator.
  Heritage, part of HCI Group, may assume up to 55,000 personal
  residential policies, of which 35,000 are from the personal lines
  account. The remaining 20,000 are from Citizens' coastal
  property account.

  appointment of Daniel Sanchez as marine hull underwriter.

  Andreas Kleiner as its new CEO after Manny Rios left the insurer in
