group reported 9 percent growth in full-year profits and its best

QBE shares rocket 8.5% on 2015 profit growth

QBE 'ambivalent' on UK EL legacy disposal
QBE will not take a final decision on whether to proceed with the
disposal of its legacy UK employers' liability (EL) book until
it sees where the bids come in, the company said at a results
presentation today (23 February).
"There's nothing that we have that I wouldn't very
happily keep," commented QBE Europe CEO Richard Pryce.
"Having said that, if there's somebody keen, we'll
have a look. And we are looking at parts of our EL portfolio, but

Maiden shares collapse on results
Maiden Holdings' share price fell by as much as 12.2 percent in
early trading as the market digested its fourth quarter results.
The shares closed on Monday at $13.57 but were changing hands
for $11.91 shortly after markets opened this morning (23
February).
The Bermudian reinsurer reported operating earnings per share of
$0.34, down from $0.44 in Q4 2014 and well short of the analyst
consensus of $0.45.

LMG in first demos of new placing platform
The London Market Group (LMG)'s new Placing Platform Limited
(PPL) electronic placing platform was demonstrated for the first
time yesterday (22 February).
There are a number of further demonstrations scheduled for this
week, with the PPL focusing on groups that have been closely
involved with the project's development.
It will be demonstrated to terrorism practitioners, subject
matter experts, project managers and those who have agreed to take
part in the market acceptance testing process.

Endurance CEO John Charman bought a further major block of shares
in the Bermudian (re)insurer during February.
Charman purchased 510,000 shares for $31mn on seven separate
days between 8 and 22 February. The move increases his shareholding
to 2.9 million shares, or 4.3 percent of the total outstanding.
His stake is currently valued at around $181mn.

Swiss Re Q4 fails to impress analysts
Swiss Re posted headline group fourth quarter net income of $938mn
to beat analyst consensus forecasts by 7 percent.

Swiss Re CEO Michel Liès is stepping down as CEO and will be
replaced by Christian Mumenthaler, the company announced today (23

After 35 years at Swiss Re, including four as CEO, Liès

the group reported its best combined ratio since 2010.
Despite a 13 percent fall in net earned premiums to $12.2bn,
group underwriting profit grew by 34 percent to $731mn after all of
its divisions reported underwriting profits.
QBE's North American operation turned its first profit since
2011, at $30mn, while the emerging markets division also returned
to profitability with a positive result of $11mn.

Hong-Kong based reinsurer Peak Re has announced the appointments
of Lawrence Cheng as head of underwriting and Iain Reynolds as head
of analytics, with immediate effect.
Cheng moves from his previous position as head of analytics and
will be responsible for the company's property and casualty
product underwriting function.
Reynolds joins the reinsurer from Guy Carpenter, where he served
as head of catastrophe modelling for Southeast Asia, Korea and
