US wholesale broker Swett & Crawford has been granted a
temporary restraining order in a dispute with rival Worldwide,
which hired a number of Swett's producing brokers.
Swett & Crawford has accused its smaller rival of devising a
scheme to "systematically and deliberately" strip it of
some key employees - who it alleged stole sensitive renewal
data.
The up-for-sale Cooper Gay-owned business is seeking more than
$1mn in damages after ten brokers left the business in a
"coordinated joint-

XL Catlin opens third Australian office
XL Catlin has opened a new office in Brisbane - its third in
Australia.
The office will be staffed initially by Geoff Still and Steve
Rogers, who will cover property and casualty underwriting
respectively, with expansion planned into other lines over
time.

UK brokers face FSCS levy
The UK's Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) will
charge brokers an indicative levy of £19mn ($27mn) for
2016/17.
Insurers, meanwhile, will pay a £94mn contribution towards
the £363mn total the FSCS is charging the UK financial sector
in 2016/17.
The overall funding levy - which is charged to UK financial
services firms across eight classes of business - is up 14 percent
on £319mn for the 2015/16 period.
The new figures were included in the FSCS plan and budget -
QIC top line increases 49% in 2015
Expansive international (re)insurance group Qatar Insurance
Company (QIC) has reported that its gross written premiums (GWP)
soared by 49 percent to $2.2bn in 2015.
The owner of Qatar Re and Lloyd's carrier Antares said its
P&C business generated the most growth, with GWP increasing by
63 percent. Marine and aviation scored a 2 percent uplift, while
life and health premiums expanded by 31 percent.

Aspen acquires US crop MGA AgriLogic
Aspen Insurance has acquired US crop insurance operation AgriLogic
Insurance Services for an undisclosed amount.
Kansas-headquartered AgriLogic is a specialist US crop managing
general agency with an integrated consultancy that produces an
estimated $185mn in gross written premiums.
AgriLogic president and CEO Joe Davis will continue in his role,
reporting to Brian Boornazian, chairman of Aspen Re. The firm will
ultimately form part of Aspen's existing reinsurance

Zurich shares plunge 9% on Q4 profit warning
Shares in Zurich Insurance Group slumped by almost 9 percent
this morning (20 January) as shareholders reacted to the
carrier's fourth-quarter profit warning.
As of 11.30am UK time Zurich's stock was trading at SwF225.3
per share ($224), an 8.7 percent decrease from when markets opened
in Switzerland.
The fall knocked around SwF3.1bn off the company's opening
market capitalisation.
